Oso is about spies but, following the modern preschool-show trend, contains no violence. How does that compare to the cartoons you watched as a kid?
I would have been bored if there wasn't enough fighting.
Same here. But today's kids don't seem to have a problem with wholesome TV.
Yeah, those old shows—Scooby-Doo, Hong Kong Phooey—bear little resemblance to Oso. We've got all the cool spy stuff—gadgets, secret missions—absent the baddies; these spies are more like the Boy Scouts. It's great for parents to have these options. My kids don't watch any violent shows at all.
It's not like those shows aren't still out there, though. How do you keep your kids from them?
I used to let my oldest daughter watch anything she wanted, as long as I watched it with her. Of course, there were movies I really wanted her to see, and she'd end up with nightmares. So she started regulating herself—she doesn't want to see scary things. This is also why we now look to Mom to judge if something's okay....
