Alt-rocker Lisa Loeb channels her inner lanyard maker in a paean to sleepaway camp.

Camp Lisa
Lisa Loeb, $14

With her trademark glasses and black turtlenecks, Lisa Loeb is the quintessential coffeehouse hipster—not the type you'd expect to record a goofily fun kids' album about summer camp (released to coincide with the launch of the Camp Lisa Foundation, which will send underprivileged kids to camp). She's dipped her toes into the wading pool before, on a 2004 collaboration with kids' folkie Elizabeth Mitchell, but Camp Lisa is definitively a Lisa Loeb CD, and the campfire sing-alongs and playground chants mesh well with her indie sound. Good humor abounds—for instance, in "The Disappointing Pancake" (on which Steve Martin plays banjo), a runaway-food song in the tradition of "On Top of Spaghetti." Regular campers will find much to relate to, while those who've never experienced a sleepaway bunk will have their curiosity piqued. —Ages 5 and up
