CAPTAIN BOGG & SALTY, $15

Captain Bogg and his crew may be the world's foremost practitioners of pirate rock (imagine old-fashioned sea chanteys spliced with the genes of '70s punk and '60s surf rock), and as such, it would not be surprising at all to see other kid bands flee in terror at the sight the Salty flag. There's something very Sex Pistols about these guys—and more than just the ragged clothing and sneering. Perhaps Captain Bogg's growly pirate voice reminds us a little of Johnny Rotten's snarling vocals. But these buccaneers use their powers for good (and not every song is sung with that guttural yo-ho-ho), bringing joy and good cheer to pirate-loving kids everywhere. These songs are just flat-out fun—and a few even dish out real-life seafaring advice, like the dangers of sipping salt water and the difference between port and starboard.—Ages 3 to 9

Top Track: "Don't Drink Sea Water"
