Every child needs a good stuffed animal. And for some, a standard, run-of-the-mill teddy bear will do the trick. But if your little iconoclast requires a more unconventional snuggly to soothe her right-brain sensibilities at bedtime, why not opt for, say, a huggable corduroy chicken? There's a definite anti-establishment feel to the motley patchwork and mismatched limb lengths of the Deglingos, but there's also no denying the lovability of these European imports. They're as sturdy and soft as they are bizarrely cute—and, one-upping many more traditional stuffed animals, they're machine washable. This fall a cow, a bunny, a lobster, and the aforementioned chicken join the existing sextet of Deglingos (cat, dog, sheep, hedgehog, wolf, and rat) to form the hippest plush menagerie around. After all, if you're going to be tripping over fluffy beasties in every room, you might as well make sure they're worth the aggravation.
