Dumbo: Big Top Edition
Dumbo: Big Top Edition
DISNEY HOME ENTERTAINMENT, $30

Yes, Dumbo can be sad: Who hasn't teared up when Mrs. Jumbo gets locked up and her lonely baby son has to nuzzle her trunk through the bars of her cage? And yes, Dumbo can be scary: "Pink Elephants on Parade" has caused many little hands to cover many little eyes. But Dumbo, just re-released to celebrate its 65th anniversary, also has one of the most thrilling, stand-up-and-cheer endings in animation history. It has perhaps the sweetest heart of any Disney feature, as well; rarely has there been a cartoon hero you just want to hug so badly. The little guy never speaks a word, yet he's incredibly expressive, leaving no doubt as to his emotions. On a moral-of-the-story note, Dumbo's perseverance makes this the ultimate believe-in-yourself fable.—Ages 3 and up
