Kids who are blasted by a barrage of facts might grow up to win at Trivial Pursuit, but will they be able to use what they've learned to draw conclusions about the world around them? The latest from the Jim Henson Company offers children more than just facts: It aims to give them the tools they'll eventually need to tackle scientific thinking. (One episode explores the uses of a magnifying glass; another introduces the concept of estimation.) Viewers get their share of why-things-happen moments, too—the protagonist finds out why food rots, how birds fly, and a lot more. And Sid pulls kids in visually with a unique look: The CGI characters all look and move like Muppets. Add music, jokes, and a high energy level, and you've got a preschool audience ready to tackle some critical-thinking skills. —Ages 3 to 6
