- Martha Speaks
- PBS KIDS, CHECK YOUR LOCAL LISTINGS
The Martha in question here is a lovable pet mutt who one day develops the power of speech after lapping up a bowl of alphabet soup (okay, so it's not a science show). There's plenty of good humor from the newly loquacious pooch—most of it revolving around how Martha now never stops talking—but the program is, at heart, a stealth vocabulary lesson. Fifty-cent words are deftly inserted—and defined—throughout the scripts, in a way that never detracts from the storytelling. —Ages 5 to 9
