Hands-on time: 20 minutes; Total time: 40 minutes. Recipe can be doubled, tripled, etc. Makes 4 servings


Ingredients


  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey, preferably dark meat
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 14-ounce cans tomato sauce
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspooon cayenne
  • 1 ½ teaspoons oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 15-ounce can beans (small black or cannelini), drained and rinsed

  1. In a deep skillet, over medium heat, sautee onion and garlic in olive oil about 5 minutes.
  2. Brown turkey meat, breaking up with a fork. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Once meat is browned, add the remaining ingredients except beans. Mix and simmer on low heat about 20 minutes.
  4. Add beans and cook until beans are heated through.
