If we thought all you wanted was the quickest way down the hill, you'd be looking at a photograph of a cafeteria tray, or maybe a kiddie-pool-turned-family-size-flying-saucer. But the current designs recognize that there is more to life than just getting to the bottom: New models come equipped with efficient steering and stop-on-a-dime brakes, as well as easy storage and portability. To whittle down the lot, our rosy-cheeked test pilots (both large and small) traveled to the Langjökull glacier in Iceland—we don't mess around—and then ranked sleds based on safety, comfort, portability, and, yes, even speed.
