EvenFlo Aura
$90, EvenFlo, Target
Overall score: 2. It's got some definite problems, but compared to other models in the same price range, it fares well.
Value: 3.5. For a superlow price, it's a great buy.
The basics: 35 pounds. Good from birth with car seat or 6 months without to 40 pounds. 23.5 inches at the widest point when it's unfolded. Collapses to 40 by 23.5 by 16 inches.
The extras: The Aura features a patented one-handed-steering system. Four cup holders, child and adult storage trays, and all-wheel suspension elevate this stroller.
Folding and storage: After a few practice rounds, this stroller can be folded and unfolded while holding a child. However, once it's folded, it's cumbersome. Stashing it in a closet is quite a feat. Expect it to fill the whole car trunk if you're driving a sedan.
Pros: The stroller is a snap to put together, and despite the low price, its plastic parts look strong. Testers loved the extralarge storage basket, which is even big enough for an oversize diaper bag and two shopping bags. Plus, the stroller has two adult-size cup holders, two child-size cup holders, an organization tray, and a compartment for baby wipes. The fabric isn't the plushest we've come across, but the whole thing can be removed for cleaning—which was a big plus for our tester whose child likes to dump things on himself. For its size, the Aura moves remarkably well. Testers reported they could steer one-handed and had no problem maneuvering through crowds. On level ground, the wheels perform well and allow for a smooth ride.
Cons: It's big. At 35 pounds and wheel-width of 23.5 inches, the Aura is a monster. It's slightly lighter than it looks, but at its size, it's difficult to carry up and down stairs, so two people are necessary for only a few steps. Putting it into the trunk of a car is tricky. There isn't a natural place to grip the stroller for lifting. The wheels stick up oddly and get in the way of closing the trunk. And using the Aura on public transportation is extremely difficult. While this stroller is easy to maneuver on a sidewalk, it's not built for off-roading. One tester noted that she finally had to give up on pushing the stroller up a grass hill. The Aura also lost points for its canopy, which is short and doesn't block out sun well.
Who will love this stroller? Someone looking for an affordable, durable, full-size stroller with plenty of storage. Families who like to take a walk in the park or head to the local farmers' market but aren't going to try an afternoon hike on rough terrain.
