If you're hitting the shops with kids in tow, make a game of it, Eli says: "Pick something for them to look for as you shop—maybe the idea is to find a postcard from a certain state."

They love Etsy because the site lets you buy directly from artists. Their most-loved purchase: a custom necklace with Holly's silhouette.

"Old children's books can make beautiful art if you mount their pages in nice new frames," says Eli.

"Holly likes hoarding things she can put in her pocket," Morales says. "Tickets, shells, acorns, the coins Stu's dad [also a collector] sends her..."

The couple's favorite collection is their photo-booth shots from over the years. "Whenever we see a booth, we go in. You can see the progression of Stu going bald," Morales teases.
