Deck the Walls
Having kids requires some home-design compromises, but it also presents an opportunity—namely, the excuse to make your home brighter, bolder, and more playful.

ACCENT WALLPAPER

If you love dramatic wallpaper but can't quite pull off—or afford—a whole room of it, just use a few strips. Choose one with a large repeat (i.e., a pattern that's visible from across the room), and apply it to a small, self-contained section of wall. This hand-printed paper, which has a cheeky trompe-l'oeil design, cozies up a reading corner within a family room.

Genuine Fake Bookshelf wallpaper, $325 a roll, Deborah Bowness, Spring, (718) 222-1054.
