Deck the Walls
Having kids requires some home-design compromises, but it also presents an opportunity—namely, the excuse to make your home brighter, bolder, and more playful.

The Soft Touch

A WALL CURTAIN

Draping fabric over an entire wall adds texture and creates the illusion of depth in a small room. Sew your fabric of choice (or have it sewn) into a curtain. Then slide it onto a narrow wooden plank or dowel and mount it to the wall. Remember to pick a pattern that will look good rippled—stripes and geometrics work well, as do saturated solids.

Elementti fabric, $42 a yard, Marimekko.
