Having kids requires some home-design compromises, but it also presents an opportunity—namely, the excuse to make your home brighter, bolder, and more playful.

The Rainbow Connection

COLOR BLOCKS

Avoid settling for just one wall color by painting graphic polychrome wall bands. Select shades in the same color family (we used yellows and oranges), then offset the palette with a contrasting block (blue!). Using a level, draw a pencil outline of the boxes on the wall (ours are each 18 by 18 inches). Then border each section in painter's tape and apply a few coats of color.
