New York City:
Curiouser and Curiouser!

Lucky Inhabitant: Madeline and Linus
Age: 4 and 6
Designer: John Derian
The Story: In this brother-sister room, Derian—who owns John Derian Company, a housewares store in New York—subtly delineated the space by using soft versions of boy-girl colors in the bedding. At the same time, he kept the look cohesive (and gender-neutral) with curiosity-cabinet details and daydream-inspiring artwork. "The story behind each wall drawing is in the eye of the beholder," he says.

Clover runner rug, $1,350, JudyRossTextiles.com for stores. Rilli quilts, from $950 each, Soof, ThisIsAuto.com. Art prints, from $425 each, Hugo Guinness, and all other furnishings and toys (similar to those shown), John Derian Company, (212) 677-3917.
