Suzanne Goin's Tips
The chef's favorite tips and tricks for building kids' palates
By Nicole Alper

- Pick-me Ups
"Young kids love to pick things up, so give them plenty of things to play with on their plates or high-chair trays," she says. "Edamame, lima beans, and black beans all look like little jewels."

- Top Tool
During her babies' puree stage, Goin relied heavily on an immersion blender, which saves time—"and dirty dishes," she says. Immersion blender, $70, kitchenaid.com.

- Secret Weapon
Goin freezes chicken broth in ice-cube trays. "Then, when I'm warming up food for the babies, I pop a cube in for moisture," she says. "They seem to like food better when it?s extramoist."

- Fresh Start
"Feeding kids by season means they get a few months to try a food, then they try something new," she says. "They might learn it's worth waiting for the perfect summer tomatoes."

- Wonder Food
"Eggs got me through my pregnancy and beyond," says Goin. Her go-to omelet includes chorizo, squash, cheese, and herbs. "Or I make a frittata and save the leftovers for lunch."
