KG: "In 2003, all our husbands deployed from Camp Pendleton, in California, to Iraq. I was working at the hospital where the Medevac flights were arriving and saw firsthand the needs of the wounded and their families. Our fund helps injured marines, sailors, and service members attached to marine forces with recovery costs, like the balance on handicap homes, special wheelchairs, and vans. We help the families stay at the bedside. Our red tape is very low, so if need be, we can get a check to a marine in six hours."

WL: "We all felt the need to do something after watching this tiny woman struggling to lift her partially paralyzed husband into their SUV. He was a marine who had come back in the first phase of the war. Karen went to the community and asked a wonderful organization in San Diego to help, and it purchased a handicap van. He was able to have his independence back."

SS: "Staying in touch and continuing to help through the recovery process feels like a blessing. We follow the marines and their families for years."
