A Walk In The Parking Lot
Have you noticed the Stork Parking signs that have been popping up everywhere of late? Neither have I. But apparently, megamall stores like Babies 'R Us and Ikea have decided that it would be nice to designate a special parking area (usually next to the handicapped spots) for parenting types.
The Babies R Us folks limit their special spots to "expectant mothers." Having been both an expectant mother and, now, a mother, that makes no sense to me. It was a hundred times easier hauling my pregnant belly across a parking lot than a thousand pounds worth of baby, carseat and diaper bag plus whatever I bought at the store, or a thousand pound toddler who decided she'd rather be carried. For a mother of more than one, I can only imagine that infant/toddler wrangling is that much harder.
Ikea has "family parking" signs with a picture of a stroller, in case there's any question who qualifies for special treatment. That seems to make more sense. Now if someone would please explain to me exactly what lingonberries are and why anyone would want to eat them.

Maybe Babies R Us only has it for pregger moms because most of their customers are visiting their store with small children?
Have to agree. I needed more help when dragging around a newborn and an 18-month-old than I did when I was pregnant. But then again, I was so lazy during my second pregnancy that getting up to walk at the store was exercise.
Yes! I find it harder to lug around my 12-week old in a carseat than my pregnant belly. I also want to comment that I've seen *men* use this parking privilege... without their pregnant wives in tow. Tsk, tsk!
