German Politician Says Scratch That Seven-Year Itch

Pauli In a bid for the leadership of the Bavarian Christian Social Union, a German politician is proposing that marriages automatically lapse after 7 years.

Gabriele Pauli, herself twice divorced, told reporters in Munich that her proposal would mean that, after seven years, couples will have to renew their vows if they still want to continue.

Needless to say, the idea did not sit well with the center-right, Catholic-dominated party:

"We are not in a circus. With ideas like that, she should give up her candidacy," said German Agriculture Minister and CSU member Horst Seehofer, who is also wants to become party leader.

Pauli also got the Germans' lederhosen all in a twist by posing provocatively for glossy magazine Park Avenue wearing long black latex gloves.

And nothing else.

Just kidding. But that would have been interesting.
