This party was quite the fete! Why is a first-birthday party so important?
I think that first-birthday parties are as much for the parents as for the kids! We survived the first year, after all, and are at last feeling like we can celebrate with a little bit of grace, thoughtfulness, and style. In other words, we finally have it together enough to find a pretty dress, blow up some perfect balloons, order some gourmet sandwiches and kick back with a glass of pink lemonade. Audrey’s party was a celebration of both the yummy little girl that we love so much and the year of 5 a.m. wake-up calls that we’ve endured.
We love all the sweet elements. What was your inspiration?
All things pink! And perfect for my chubby-cheeked baby girl! I used many of the ideas for parties that we have featured on Style Me Pretty as inspiration for all of the little details. I wanted a pretty, pretty day fit for a princess.
We started with four giant pink balloons that we found on Balloon Place that would serve as the backdrop for the table. The centerpiece was the perfect rose-topped cupcakes that Sweet of Boston crafted for us. We only ordered 25 of these, as they were pricey, and filled in with straight-out-of-the-box vanilla cupcakes with pink frosting. We hung a fabulously adorable flag banner by Daisy and Dots on Etsy across the front of the table. Too, too cute. And we used tins to store cold drinks and water balloons.
We hung poms from Pom Love from the outdoor umbrella, because what party is complete without a little pom love? Along with another banner from Daisy and Dots, it looked adorable. We used environmentally happy bamboo utensils and plates from greenfeet. To complete the look, we threw a bunch of $2 pink bouncy balls, beach balls, and a couple of hop balls in the backyard for the kids. And a few hula hoops for the crazy adults.
The decor and favors are so sweet. Can you tell us a little more about them?
The favor bags are filled with chocolate-chip cookies that Audrey's grandmother graciously made and homemade bubbles for the kids to take home with them. For our cookie bags, we bought some white bakery bags at Michaels. Using white label paper, I printed out a pretty sticker that was customized to say “Chocolate Chip Cookies, Homemade by Audrey.” For our bubble favors, I found some great tins at Specialty Bottle. I made another label using basic white label paper, then filled the tins with bubble solution that I found at the drugstore. Lastly, I made some pipe cleaner bubble wands, secured to the tins using kraft raffia.
Thanks to Abby for sharing and to Studio Foto for all the great photos!
And if you're in New York City on Sunday, Abby will be hosting an event at Crate & Barrel, so stop by!
