Magazine_holders

Just saw this clever idea on Ohdeedoh. A spin on the old book-cover idea, Courtney of Two Straight Lines, covered her magazine holders in cute wrapping paper. See where she got her materials (hint: some of it is from IKEA) and how she did it here.

As Seen On: Ohdeedoh

Henryivhighchair_2

It's nice to know that Ohdeedoh is as obsessed with gorgeous modern highchairs as we are. This Henry IV high chair from Sibi (a collaboration between Sirch and Bitzer) is made of powder-coated steel and varnished birch. Not only is it beautifully minimalist, it also converts to a regular chair. See more pictures of it here.

As Seen On: dbO Home

Dana Brandwein Oates actually did what we all dream about--leaving a high-stress corporate city job and moving to Connecticut to take up pottery. Turns out she had quite the knack for it, and now she churns out tons of gorgeous handmade bowls, plates, vases, even lamps from her home studio. All of them are slightly unique, and any one makes an amazing gift. Here are a few of our favorites:

Naturally Dyed Eggs

Following Julie's instructions on Craftastica, Cookie assistant editor Mireille Hyde prepared for Easter Sunday by dying eggs naturally with onion skins--but you can also use tea, coffee, cabbage, etc. The verdict? Gorgeous and surprisingly easy. See Mireille's pics below.

New from Giggle

Giggle

We're eagerly anticipating spring over here...and Giggle's new line is really making us crave those days full of sun and flowers. Besides the adorable cashmere blankets (above), we're a fan of the super soft stuffed animals, organic cotton onesies, and pastel (yet still very cool) wooden toys. Maybe if you start decking out the nursery, Mother Nature will get the hint.

Shop Style Living

Shop_style_living

As much fun as clicking through hundreds of websites is, wouldn't it be great if you could find all of the best furniture styles from boatloads of companies with just one click? Shop Style, ever the resource for browsing through clothes, shoes, and accessories, just made life easier for the home-obsessed by launching Shop Style Living.

Enter your search words, and scroll through the options--everything from sofas to measuring cups--super fast. Select the ones you like best, and you can either e-mail it to a friend, save it to your stylebook, have the site e-mail you when the price changes, and/or be redirected to the website of the retailer (Macy's, Room & Board, CB2, etc.) to buy it immediately. After just a day of playing around on it, we're beginning to wonder how we got by without it.

It also has instructional videos and a family meal planner with dinner suggestions that will appease appetites of all ages.

As Seen On: Ohdeedoh

Woodland_home

Are your kids (or you) Lord of the Rings fans? Or just fans of low-impact living? Ohdeedoh posted a house tour of the incredible hillside abode of Simon, Jasmine, Cosmo, and Elfie (above). The Welsh family decided that they wanted to live closer to nature, and it took them just a couple of months and a few thousand dollars to create this fantastical dwelling. Click here for incredible interior shots and more information.

And on that same note, check out our slideshow of magical hobbit-like treehouses.

Barbie_ohdeedoh

Since we're on a life-in-miniature kick this month (check out our readers' dollhouses and DIY dollhouse if you missed them), of course we were drawn to this post on Ohdeedoh. Photographer Michael Williams created a dollhouse homage to Jonathan Adler for Barbie and friends. The detail is crazy! See the full post for more images.

Winebottlemain

Our friends at Design*Sponge posted a fantastic idea for a nontraditional Valentine's Day gift. Using glass etching cream, they created a modern take on the ship in the bottle that would look fantastic on a bookshelf. (As a bonus, roll up a love letter and pop it inside.) Check out their full post for instructions.

Top Ten Display Bookshelves

At_bookshelves_2

Our friends ohdeedoh have scavenged to find these great display bookshelves for kids' rooms. We love some of the little-known resources they've unearthed like RonJuneShop and Discount School Supply. Worth a bit of browsing to see what other rooms you might find gems for...

And if you're wondering what to stock these shelves with, check out all of our kids' book reviews.

Get Hooked

Kapstok_hooks

While trolling Babygadget.com, we saw these great hooks from Kidz Lifestyle, which is in the Netherlands. "Kapstok" means "coat rack" and "jas" means "coat." But with Accroc letter hooks (below), you can spell whatever you want--in whatever language you want. What a great idea to keep towels and mounds of outerwear off the floor.

Check out our round-up of half a dozen more cool hooks for kids' rooms like our robot friend below.

Punky Brewster Goes Green

Littleseed

Former child star Soleil Moon Frye is now a mom of two and apparently serious about giving them a healthy planet in which to grow up. Her eco-friendly shop, The Little Seed, has everything from BPA-free Green to Grow bottles (which we reviewed here) to Nursery Works cribs.

Check out all of our favorite green sites.

As seen on: Designer's Library

Picture_9
We spotted this genius creation over on Designer's Library: Depending on how you place them, these wooden blocks can spell out "fish" in English and Japanese and make the shape of a fish. The blocks come in other words, too, such as bear, bird, horse, and monkey. How perfect for little bilingual babies.

322halfbath

Somehow we missed this amazing bathroom when Ohdeedoh showcased it the first time around. (They're currently running through the best posts of the year, and we're honored that our Kids' Eye Kitchen is part of their favorite ideas in March.) Anyway, Jeanine covered the walls of this half bath in chalkboard paint, and as potty-training incentive, they wrote something on the wall every time he went, you know, in the toilet. There are reminders to wash hands and quotes from him. Bathroom graffiti worth reading...an excellent idea.

Etsy in our closets

Babydress

Etsy, the market for handmade goods, is the best place to find....well, pretty much everything. Apart from coasters, toys and a market bag in which to carry everything, we've been loving the clothing for moms and kids. So, this week, we did a round-up of Etsy fashion. See it here.

Great Idea: Playful Pillows

20071203deseta_pillow

Our friends over at Apartment Therapy have a beautiful new site design, and they've renamed "The Nursery" to "ohdeedoh." (If you understand the meaning, please enlighten us!) While admiring their new set-up, we also noticed these brilliant pillows from Deseta. And if you're looking for even more whimsy, the company will create custom pillows for you based on your child's artwork.

Eames Hacks

124

Kids should be able to enjoy Eames, too, right? Well, six students from Philly's University of the Arts think so. They recently created a cheeky high chair and toilet seat from classic Eames chairs. Apparently, the students wanted to make high design less snooty and more accessible: "These once iconic, elite forms are liberated from their old, restrained image. The project is not a critique of the Eames, but rather a fulfillment of their original ideals."

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Charles Eames's birthday. We're sure he would have found this a great birthday present.

(Above: Eames' molded plywood dining chair morphed into a high chair. Below: Eames' classic shell turned into a children's toilet seat.)
