Reader's Question: Cute Pink Tables

hosl06_pasadena_house.jpgI love the pink side tables on page 119 from your recent "Playing with Tradition" story. Can you please tell me where I can find them? -- Nina Farmer

Aren't they sweet? Unfortunately, the set was purchased by the designer from a vintage furniture shop, and it's one of a kind. But we did some digging, and found a similar table from Seabrook Classics that we thought you might like--and it comes in 45 different colors, including a gorgeous pink that matches the tables from our story. Check it out here.

Reader's Question: Great Wallpaper for Boys?

Waldots_darkgray

I'm about to create a room for my 3 1/2-year-old twin boys. I'm thinking of painting the walls a deep blue, with white window trim and baseboards, and doing two of the walls with wallpaper. I'd like something not too serious but not too precious and babyish. Do you have any suggestions?  -- Joanna Bucker, Brooklyn, NY

Ah, striking this kind of balance is a common conundrum. Luckily, our editors have had a lot of experience navigating this problem, and there are plenty of great sources out there. Given your color palette, here are some great wallpaper picks:

Reader Question: Where Can I Get That Chair?

"I am dying for this chair shown in a reader home tour. I have the space for it picked out and am ready to grab my son and Good Night Moon and get cozy in it. Any ideas of where I can find something similar?" --Erin Schuiteman, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Cookie_mag_chair

We love this chair, too. It's Hans J. Wegner's Peacock chair, and you can buy it here for a pretty sizeable chunk of change. Or, you could go here for a more affordable traditional take. And there's always e-Bay. Try using search terms like "windsor chair," "continuous back chair," "bow back chair," or "arrow bow back chair." Also, here's a similar style in a rocker we love.

Reader's Question: Where Did That Penguin Come From?

Penguin

I love the penguin sculpture in the storage story in your June/July 2008 issue. Is that something I can buy? -- Allison Carney, Seattle, WA.

That adorable penguin sculpture is unfortunately not available for sale. It was handmade by a student at Studio In A School, an arts education organization in New York City. For more than 30 years, Studio In A School has fostered the creative and intellectual development of young people through visual arts programs directed by professional artists.

Reader's Question: Help! I Need A Baby Shower Gift

Marie from Kansas City needs a baby-shower gift, stat! "My co-worker is having her third child, and I have no idea what present to bring to her shower," Marie explains. "She already has all the typical baby stuff, and I don't want to give her useless clutter. Help!"

Here are three shower gifts for the mom (and, soon, baby) who has everything...
Il_430xn39224234Brass is big these days. You could find a sweet brass figurine, like this whale, which would look lovely on a nursery bookshelf or cheer up the family living room.

Il_430xn37456309This adorable stuffed animal will make fast friends with the new baby; plus, this fabric giraffe looks lovely to adult eyes, too.

Reader's Question: Where'd You Get Those Cute Toys?

"I was wondering if you would be able to tell me what products were featured on page 37 of the September 2008 issue and where to find them. It looks like a Ganesha nesting doll and other Indian-inspired things." -Jenica Vaid, Paramus, New Jersey

Fireplace_opener

We agree these toys are gorgeous. Our health and beauty director has great taste. (That's her house and her adorable son!) The Ganesha piggy bank and orange canister on the mantel were brought back from trips to Russia and Hong Kong. The little bird on the mantel is from MoMA, and the little bowl up there is from Global Table.

By the way, the idea behind this photograph came from Surya Sajnani of Wee Gallery and was about turning nooks and crannies (unused fireplaces, a cabinet shelf, a nook under the stairs) into secret play spaces for your kids. For more playtime inspiration, check out our DIY dollhouse.
