My obsession with '50s-style home design makes my mother cringe. She can't understand why I would be so into the look that she grew up with and therefore can't stand. Just about every time I show her something new in my place, I'm met with, "Ugh, really? Your grandfather had one just like that!"
But I'm thinking even she would have to admit that
Big Chill's retro-style fridges, dishwashers, and (brand new!) stoves are kind of cool. (Plus, they'll hold magnets for your kids' artwork unlike all those stainless-steel models crowding showroom floors these days.) Love this beach blue but

As fall arrives, evident in the changing of the leaves and the crisp, cool nights, we love the hand-knit goods over at
Biisoo for making your infant warm and cozy. Crochet and hand-knits are all made in New Zealand by highly skilled women using time honored traditions, and you get your choice of 15 colors. Biisoo is safe for the skin, too; they use only the finest certified-organic merino wool sourced from New Zealand and Australia; it is 100 percent natural and chemical-free--and
they ship worldwide.

Hats, booties, blankets, sweaters ... they have such a darling selection of handmade knits that you'll wish they came in your size, too. (We sure do!)
To see where Biisoo is sold in your area, or to order by email,

America's favorite doll
turned 50 this year, and Jonathan Adler just launched
a collection inspired by her. It's a match made in heaven, don't you think? See all the products (for you and the kids!)
here, but we particularly love the canister and throw below.

Oh, how we love
The Conran Shop, that bastion of high-design homewares, gifts, and gadgets. And while it's always fun to browse through their selection of covetable (and costly) European imports, we are chomping at the bit for the launch this week of
Well Considered, a recession-sensitive household collection. Iconic furniture pieces, modern accessories, and kitchen essentials we can actually afford? Yes, please! A few favorites from the line:

It's just about time for the annual Halloween dilemma. Do I (a) spend hours trying to craft a costume that my kid won't appreciate; or (b) suck it up and buy something cheap and plastic with a suffocating mask? Lucky for all of us, there's the
Wishcraft line by Chasing Fireflies. It has (quality) costumes of the characters your kids love (yes, including Harry Potter), fairy-tale classics, and much more. Plus, they're durable enough to be tossed into the dress-up box for years of more fun after Halloween. Below are a few of our favorites, but
see all the styles.

The same company that brought us the brilliant
crib and
high chair that fold flat has just released a couple of new smart baby products. Loving Bloom's limited-edition
Fresco Fiamma high chair (in Ferrari red!) and the
Luxo Sleep, which seamlessly goes from crib to baby bed.

When we need a break at work, instead of walking to the water cooler, we click over to
Etsy, the online marketplace, where the vintage wares always inspire us. One of our favorite stops is
High Street Market, a Philly-based home store. Here's our current wish list....
Vintage brass shark, $18. For a grown-up desk or
Jaws-loving kids.
Ouija board, $24. For spooky fortunes during late-night sleepovers...
Bulletin board, $52. Kids can tack up postcards and notes on the pretty geometric fabric.

Vintage
miniature airplanes, $12. To add some derring-do to a nursery bookcase.
P.S.
Online home-decor shops and
websites we love ...

We couldn't help but fall in love with the stunning new
Meridian collection table from Thos. Moser. Each piece is handcrafted from ash and finished with a UV-blocking clear lacquer to protect the color of the wood over time. (Translation: This stuff ain't cheap ... but it sure is beautiful.)

We've raved in the past about Argington's
Sahara collection and the incredible
Uffizi bunk bed, but the new more delicate
Bam line is our favorite yet. The ebony finish shown below is gorgeous, but these beauts are also available in bamboo and white. (Sold through
Fawn&Forest.)
