Angie Harmon, working mother of two girls, seizes the occasional opportunity for glamour. And so it is that she arrives at the pet store—to buy live mealworms for Cutie Pie, her oldest girl's pet gecko—"wearing my skinny jeans and wedge heels. So, you know, everything is okay," she says, laughing.
This fall is already shaping up to be more hectic than glamorous for the star of ABC's new Women's Murder Club; her husband, NFL analyst Jason Sehorn; and their kids, Finley Faith and Avery Grace. At work on a weekly hour-long drama for the first time since her three-year stint on Law & Order ended in 2001, Harmon foresees "days that are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. instead of 9 to 5. Finley is about to start school, and of course I want to take her to school and pick her up, but I think these are the sacrifices you make."
That kind of trade-off proves Harmon's conviction, despite her fame and hunky former-football-star husband, that "all mothers go through the exact same things. I call friends for advice. I lose my temper and feel horrible about it. But I love them, and they are my life.... It's not like I don't have my own wants and dreams anymore—it's just that the kids come first. It's primal." And when the girls are rambunctious and fighting? Harmon does what any sane mother would do: She passes them off to their father. "When they turn into Children of the 'Horn," she jokes, "I'm like, 'Honey, the inmates are taking over the prison. Now come get your kids.'"
