Wearing an honest-to-God lipstick carries with it certain hazards when you have little hands pawing your face all day long—but not after hours. The most forgiving way to rock this season's ultradark lips, says makeup artist Angie Parker, is to skip the liner and "wear it smudgy." Here, she used MAC lipstick in Dark Side ($14, MAC), which she describes as "moist while still looking matte." Getting the look takes seconds: Apply lip color to the entire mouth, pucker, and blot your lips with your fingers. (Don't blot with tissue, which will remove pigment—i.e., defeat the purpose.) Repeat both steps once or twice "to take down some of the shine and make the color look worn in," Parker explains. This process "gives you a density of color that will stick to your lips and last all night." Play down the rest of your face—just a coat of mascara; pale, shimmery shadow on the lids; and a light swirl of blush.
