Winged Eyeliner

Exit your mascara-only comfort zone and try this quietly glam liner technique. "I've always been in awe of the golden years of Hollywood," says makeup pro Pat McGrath of her inspiration for the look, which she featured at Dolce & Gabbana's fall show. You'll be in awe at how easy it is.

GET THE LOOK

Tilt your head back, eyes slightly open. Use a liquid liner pen to draw a thin line from the inner corner of the top lid outward in one swoop. Gradually thicken the line toward the outer corner and extend it up to a point, says McGrath, creative director of Dolce & Gabbana The Make Up. "Practice makes perfect," she adds. Curl your lashes and put on mascara.

try these cheats

Liquidphobic? Opt for gel liner instead. Use an angled brush to "press it into the lash line in small increments," says Chanel makeup artist Rachel Goodwin. Or try a soft pencil. For ease, "keep it sharp," McGrath says.

play it safer

If black is too daunting, try subtler colors like gray (above) and brown. "For day, plum liner looks so gorgeous," Goodwin says.
