2009 Smart Cookie Awards Contest
2009 SMART COOKIE AWARDS CONTEST Contest begins at 12:01 A.M. ET on 11/25/08 and ends 11:59 P.M. ET on 12/16/08. To enter, log on to www.cookiemag/go/smartcookieawards, complete the online entry form, and submit it as instructed. All entries must be received by 11:59 P.M. ET on 12/16/08. You must include: (i) an essay of no more than 150 words describing an extraordinary mother whom you know who is an outstanding achiever and contributor and is working to better the lives of mothers, children, or both; and (ii) a recent, accurate digital image of your nominee, showing her face (file may not exceed 500 kilobytes). The essay and photograph (collectively, "Submission") must be original works of the nominator and must not infringe the rights of any third party. Only one (1) entry per person/e-mail address.
Judging criteria: i. First Round: All entries will be judged by a panel of judges from the editorial staff of Cookie magazine, based on the following two criteria: (i) 33.3 percent on the extent of the nominee's personal and work commitments and how she manages these obligations to fit in charitable work for others; and (ii) 66.7 percent on the breadth and quality of her charitable work (e.g., originality of her "vision," her position and degree of involvement in charitable organizations, and the progress resulting from or impact of her work). The five (5) nominees with the highest overall scores will be declared Potential Finalists and will each be awarded $1,000 from Citi to apply to the charity of their choice, subject to Sponsor's approval. In the event of a tie, the Potential Finalists will be selected based on the charitable work criterion.
ii. Second Round: The Submissions submitted by the nominators of the five (5) Potential Finalists will be posted online at www.cookiemag.com beginning on 1/6/09, and readers will be invited to vote for the winner. Note: Voting will be restricted to one vote per person, per household, per e-mail address. The Finalist with the highest number of votes received by 11:59 P.M. ET on 2/10/09 will be declared the Potential Winner. The Potential Winner will be determined within ten (10) business days after voting is completed. If more than one person nominates the same woman, judges reserve the right to select the nominator whose entry best meets the stated criteria. All decisions of the judges are final and binding in all respects. If, at any time, any nominator or Potential Winner cannot be contacted or does not respond within three (3) days, or the prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such nominator or potential nominee forfeits all rights to any prize, and an alternate may be selected. All entry materials become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. The copyright in any Submission shall remain the property of the entrant, but entry into this Promotion constitutes entrant's irrevocable and perpetual permission and consent, without further compensation or attribution, to use, reproduce, print, publish, transmit, distribute, sell, perform, adapt, enhance, or display such Submission for any purpose, including but not limited to editorial, advertising, trade, commercial, and publicity purposes by the Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor, in any and all media now in existence or hereinafter created, throughout the world, for the duration of the copyright in the Submission. Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor shall have the right to edit, adapt, and modify the Submission.
Prizes: i. Top Nominee Prize: The Smart Cookie Award Winner will receive round-trip coach airfare for four (4) from the major commercial airport nearest the Winner's primary residence in the U.S. to New York City; two (2) standard hotel rooms (double occupancy) for two (2) nights at a hotel to be chosen by Sponsor; participation in a gala awards ceremony and television broadcast on 4/20/09; and a $35,000 donation to the charity of her choice, courtesy of Citi and subject to the approval of Sponsor. Winner may, at Sponsor's discretion, have her photograph and story featured in a future issue of Cookie magazine. The approximate retail value of the prize is $5,000, depending on exact itinerary. Actual value may vary based on airfare fluctuations and distance between departure point and destination. Winner and travel companions must be available to travel on the same itinerary as selected by Sponsor. Ground transportation, meals, in-room or personal charges at the lodging (e.g., minibar, movies), telephone calls, gratuities, and all other incidentals are not included. Trip must be taken to coincide with the awards ceremony. If Winner is unable to travel at this time, Winner forfeits the prize, and an alternate winner will be chosen. Guests accompanying Winner on trip must be immediate family members. If, in the sole judgment of Sponsor, air travel is not required due to Winner's proximity to prize location, ground transportation may be substituted for round-trip airfare.

Sponsor, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry/voting processes or the operation of the website. Use of bots or other automated processes to enter/vote is prohibited and may result in disqualification at the sole discretion of Sponsor. Sponsor further reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or modify any promotion not capable of completion as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, force majeure, or technical failures of any sort. In the event of a dispute, entries will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institute) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.
