Austin seems to be on everybody's list of cool places to visit (even though it's anything but cool, temperature-wise, from June through September). Great music, year-round outdoor life, and the biggest university campus in the country have been Austin draws for years. People from both coasts travel to this capital of the Lone Star State for its burgeoning film and technology industries. On top of it all, the people of Austin know how to kick back and have a great time. There's no need to miss the best Austin has to offer just because some of the travelers in your party are under 6. In fact, it's hard to imagine a better city to enjoy with young children. Visit one of the places that give Austin its funky vibe—"Keep Austin Weird," as it says on all those T-shirts and bumper stickers. Take a cue from Austin parents and go hear a band at a restaurant with outdoor seating and a shady play area. When your children begin to flag or melt down, take a break at one of our favorite neighborhood spots. And if the weather stops cooperating, visit the Austin Children's Museum in the heart of downtown.
