South Congress

South Austin is packed with fun shops, new restaurants, and great places to hear live music. Many of Austin's musicians live around here, and there are plenty of chances to hear them perform. Congress Avenue is the hub, with enough enticing stops for a full day of strolling. Stick around for First Thursday, the monthly neighborhood party, when everything's open late. The area's "ace in the hole" is Zilker Park, complete with playground, train ride, dinosaur dig, and one of the country's best swimming holes. You might forget you're in a city, except for the great view of downtown across Town Lake.
