The Trump Card

The Austin Children's Museum (201 Colorado St., (512) 472-2499; closed Mondays) is the perfect place to let it all hang out. Budding musicians can play air guitar at Austin Kiddie Limits, little chefs can prepare meals with an international collection of plastic food, and soon-to-be scientists can delve into exhibits that explore meteorology. There's a water table for children 2 to 5, a special area reserved for children under 2, and plenty of parents to laugh with. Story times take place throughout the day; art activities, yoga classes, and concerts are scheduled regularly. Visit the gift shop if someone needs a little something to keep him occupied at the hotel. The museum is within walking distance of downtown hotels, and the excellent Las Manitas Avenue Cafe (211 Congress Ave., 512-472-9357), good for a speedy and delicious breakfast or lunch.
