As anyone with twins will attest, they can be besties one day and rivals the next. The same holds true for Minneapolis and St. Paul. Although state capital St. Paul is older by seven years and has more impressive historical landmarks, the lush and fun-packed Como Park, and two top-notch museums for kids, Minneapolis is considered more popular, due to its glitzy architecture (especially the Guthrie Theater and the Walker Art Center), 22 lakes, six public skateboard parks, and exploding art scene.

Nevertheless, the Twin Cities really do love each other (after the I-35W bridge collapse last summer, both reached across the Mississippi to rebuild and renew). That warm, oh-gosh-you-betcha Minnesota nice radiates through the entire area—the bustling city centers, the gleaming lakes, the tree-lined residential streets—and beckons to visitors of all ages.
