You've heard the presidential candidates list everything wrong with Washington, but we'd like to remind you of its magical qualities. Not only can your kids see the real-life landmarks that are printed on the backs of their allowance, it doesn't cost a pretty penny. The impressive vista of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool from the National Mall will inspire national pride in even the most apathetic (or cynical) visitors. And spy exhibits, canal tours, and astronaut ice cream make few cities more fun. D.C.'s diamond shape is easy to navigate by foot; the hard part is picking from all the riches. We focused on three areas that offer both must-see sites and hidden gems for food and shopping. Between all the Ionic columns and the gorgeous green space, you and your little patriot are sure to leave starry-eyed.
