The unofficial capital of the South may have a bit of a reputation for suburban sprawl and traffic (there's an intersection known as Spaghetti Junction). But ever since the 1996 Olympics, Atlanta has been undergoing a hot revival, with an influx of young families and professionals, new additions like the Georgia Aquarium—the largest in the world!—and more than 15 miles of bike and pedestrian trails in its 355 parks. Of course, nostalgics still have their (spiffed-up) Old South homes and historic sites and no shortage of pecan pie and sweet tea. We've picked neighborhoods that offer your family both new and old southern comforts (and keep you out of that traffic), whether you're into Noguchi playgrounds, wisteria-lined lanes, or cafés where a request for organic hominy grits will be met with a sincerely courteous "Yes, ma'am."
