Estes Park to Boulder
35 milesHead south on Highway 36 to the tiny town of Lyons. Stop by Lyons Classic Pinball (339A Main St., 303-823-6100), which has more than 35 vintage pinball machines.
Continue to Boulder, the capital of crunchy living and home of Celestial Seasonings tea and Crocs. Check out the double-height glass-ceilinged lobby of the 1909 Hotel Boulderado (2115 13th St., 303-442-4344), then hit Pearl Street, which fills with musicians, magicians, and mimes during the day.
Browse the shops lining the street: Boulder Bookstore (1107 Pearl St., 303-447-2074) has a large children's section. From spring through fall, you can stroll through the farmers' market on 13th Street (open Wednesdays and Saturdays), where kids can get their faces painted and you can buy a bag of the locally made granola, Raw. Stop in for a hot drink at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse (1770 13th St., 303-442-4993).
If you're in the mood for adventure, head to the 16-mile Boulder Creek Path, which is dotted with fishing ponds, easy trails, and access points to the creek for tubing.
Before you leave, have a meal at The Kitchen (1039 Pearl St., 303- 544-5973), a wind-powered Boulder favorite for brunch and dinner. Almost everything, from the brussels sprouts to the buttermilk waffles, is local and organic.
