Hotel Captain Cook
What it is: Anchorage's only luxury hotel, comprised of three copper towers, in the center of downtown Anchorage.
The rooms: All 547 rooms, including 96 suites, offer views of Cook Inlet or the Chugach Mountains. These rooms unfortunately have no air conditioning, but they are equipped with ceiling fans. There are no additional room charges for children 18 and younger accompanied by an adult.
Amenities: The on-site restaurant, Fletcher's, offers a variety of gourmet cuisine ranging from pizzas to seafood specialties. The Captain Cook also has separate men's and women's athletic clubs complete with saunas and steam rooms.
Activities: Trips on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail can be arranged with the help of the hotel. And guests can participate in yoga and Pilates classes and racquetball games on the premises. Families can visit the nearby playground and the Imaginarium science museum, where kids can learn about everything from outer space to reptiles.
