Small Hope Bay Lodge

What It Is: Seventeen bright beachside cottages built of coral rock and Andros Pine. The emphasis is on nature, which explains the absence of phones, newspapers, or televisions.

The Rooms:All of the furniture is locally made, and the rooms are decorated in Androsia Batik fabrics. There are four two-bedroom cottages available for families. Each has its own private toilet and shower (but no bathtubs).

Amenities: There is a staffed laundry facility, a game room, and an outdoor patio bar and dining area for barbecues. Complimentary babysitting is provided for children 2 to 9 between 6 and 9 p.m.

Activities: Its scuba diving and snorkeling program has more than 60 dive sites in one of the world's longest barrier reefs and is great for both beginners and old hands. Guests 10 and older can take the complimentary Discover Scuba program, and younger children can try SASY (Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth) or Bubblemaker. If you prefer to stay on land, make use of the complimentary bicycles, get a massage, take a walk on one of the nature trails, or go bird watching.

AtlantisWhat It Is: More than 3,000 guest rooms and suites that are part of the Blue Project to raise awareness and help preserve coral reefs.

The Rooms: There are six areas of rooms/suites that you can choose from. The Beach Towers are suggested for families; they are farther from the casinos and nightclubs. Enjoy condolike accommodations with full kitchens.

Amenities: There are two freshwater kids' pools with statuesque fountains; six lagoons full of sharks, string rays, turtles, and deep-reef fish; a spa and fitness center; and even a pottery studio. Nearby Aquaventure has four water slides, a mile-long river ride, and 11 rock-climbing walls.

Activities: Kids can study small sea creatures with Kids Club microscopes, snorkel, scuba dive, or join parents on a two-hour catamaran cruise.
