Aspen


The Little Nell

What it is: A 92-room cosmopolitan hotel that is the only ski in/ski out property in Aspen.

The rooms: Whether you're sleeping in a standard room or a suite, each guest room of the Little Nell is decorated in a cozily comfortable style. The standard room offers an oversize bed with ultrasoft linens and goose-down comforters. The Pfeifer Suite is a 2,000-square-foot space with two bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and two balconies.

Amenities: Enjoy the hotel's personal spa and fitness center. The hotel concierge can arrange reservations, babysitting, transportation, and satisfy any business needs. The ski concierge provides equipment storage and tune-ups, assistance with rentals, intermountain transportation, and ski instruction. Try the world-class Montagna Restaurant, or the Tavern, a French bistro–style establishment. Room service is also available, and the cooking staff is willing to prepare whatever you would like.

Activities: Along with skiing, you'll find wine tours, musical performances, hot-air ballooning, fly fishing, golf, hiking, horseback riding, Jeep tours, mountain biking, rafting, and kayaking.

Beaver Creek


Beaver Creek Resort

What it is: A four-diamond, world-class ski resort at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain.

The rooms: Beaver Creek Lodge consists of 72 spacious guest suites outfitted in mountain-themed décor. The rooms have couches, kitchenettes, flat-screen televisions, and wireless Internet access. There are also three-bedroom condos with full kitchens, laundry facilities, and whirlpool baths in the master bedroom.

Amenities: Gas fireplaces, two televisions, Nintendo, and a movie service will make sure your vacation is as cozy as it is entertaining. The resort concierge can help arrange reservations and ski services, which include resort shuttling and retail ski and snowboard shops. Also try the state-of-the-art fitness facility, the off-site spa, the pool, the hot tub, the climbing all, the 18-hole miniature golf course, and ice skating.

Activities: A winter visit to Beaver Creek means guests can take part in skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and dogsledding. The Brown Palace Hotel

What it is: A Victorian-style hotel in downtown Denver.

Dunton Hot Springs

What it is: A mining town turned luxury compound with stylish cabins and a giant teepee with a California king-size bed.

The rooms: Stay in one of 12 hand-hewn authentic cabins for a traditional experience. Many of the cabins were built by the town's original miners, giving each one a personal flair and layout.

Amenities: Round out your rustic trip with a stop at the Saloon for pool, food, and drinks. The adjoining Dance Hall is perfect for events and large groups. To unwind, visit the Dunton Library or take a yoga class. The West Fork Gym has boxing, cardio bikes, and weights. The compound's screening room offers a place to enjoy a movie, and the Spa at Dunton offers holistic and therapeutic treatments with massage and aromatherapy.

Activities: In the winter, Dunton is the perfect spot to heli-ski, snowshoe, cross-country ski, snowmobile, ice skate, and ice climb. During the rest of the year, horseback ride, fly fish, hike, mountaineer, mountain bike, rock climb, raft, and kayak.

Estes Park


Stanley Hotel

What it is: A member of the Historic Hotels of America with a history of haunting rumors. (When Stephen King stayed here, he was inspired to write The Shining.)

The rooms: A range of classically styled guestrooms and suites, as well a Overlook Villas, which feature one- to four-bedroom layouts. Most rooms and villas include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, room service, and complimentary wireless Internet.

Amenities: Satisfy your taste buds at Cascades Restaurant for a relaxed and luxurious experience, or try Steamers Café on the garden level for coffee and baked pastries. Fort Collins


Armstrong Hotel

What it is: A beautifully restored mixture of 37 vintage and modern rooms in downtown Fort Collins.

The rooms: Choose between rooms, suites, apartment suites, and studios styled in either a vintage or modern theme. The rooms all offer either a king- or queen-size bed and complimentary high-speed Internet. Guests can also request alternative bedding, robes, space heaters, and white-noise machines.

Devil's Thumb Ranch

What it is: An environmentally friendly 5,000-acre ranch resort and spa in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

The rooms: Choose between staying in one of 16 cabins—the largest of which can sleep up to eight—or one of 52 single rooms or suites in the ranch's lodge. Both choices are stocked with rustic furniture and cozy linens to ensure a comfortable stay.

Amenities: Guests of the ranch can enjoy two outdoor hot tubs, a year-round geothermally heated pool, a fitness center, and a 40-seat theater in the lodge. Movies are also available for rent. Book a treatment in the Ranch Creek Spa and indulge in a Swedish massage, wrap, soak, or facial.

Activities: Explore the landscape by cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or hiking. Or take in the scenery on horseback, on a mountain bike, or in a raft or kayak. Near the ranch you'll find Winter Park Resort, one of Colorado's premiere alpine ski resorts; Rocky Mountain National Park, with wildlife viewing and incredible scenery; and Grand Lake, where you can get a rush snowmobiling. During warmer months, take in an outdoor jazz concert or shop and see a show in Grand Lake. For those who don't want to leave the lodge, there's a café, pub and bistro, miniature bowling alley, and a giant fireplace.
