Aigle

Set in the Alps, Whitepod's canvas domes look like igloos from the outside and cozy boutique-hotel rooms inside. Many have terraces with transcendent views of Lake Geneva. The welcoming 98-year-old Waldhaus hotel draws generations of families, and its restaurant offers a lavish buffet breakfast and four-course dinner. Zermatt

The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, built in 1879, has been entirely refurbished with modern fixtures, right down to the heated towel racks. Ski over the mountainside to the Findlerhof restaurant, where you can park your poles in the snow and enjoy a feast of salmon carpaccio and scampi on a terrace overlooking the runs.
